Artist Statement

Photography becomes an approach for me to capture and revive my certain reactions resulting from childhood, in order to reconstruct a space portraying my past experiences. I start to face my childhood memories again, reinvestigating their effects on my feelings and emotions. My series "Home" is my latest exploration. I use blue light to simulate the blue down light in the house when all the lights were off - when cold violence lurked among family members and when I abused myself. Just like the complimentary balance of orange and blue in the color wheel, those small amounts of warm lights represent my imaginary warmth and safety in a home. Meanwhile, plastic sheets are used to cover objects. The cold quality of them is in contrast to the soft warmth of other fabrics. Furthermore, plastic sheeting lets objects lose their original representation, and reveals how nebulous the recollections can be. With the fabric blurring the figures, what I depict is the atmosphere of memories. If other viewers find themselves echoing with the atmosphere I recreate and their exclusive memories evoked, they may feel disparate objects, persons or stories are represented.
